Rapid Retro: Holidays & Coupons

NO internet, no mobile phones, no QR codes, no problem! The essentials were a pen and a few envelopes and stamps to get the ball rolling.

Whilst booking a holiday back in the 1970s was not as swift as booking one now, it was a pleasant gentle process. If you didn’t want to physically go to a travel agent, magazine coupons took away the legwork so the holiday brochures were delivered to your home.

Once the brochures arrived, you’d leisurely browse through them until you decided on your destination – no rush or pressure.

So, below are a selection of holiday adverts and coupons from 1976. Which holiday destination would you choose? If you’re feeling very nostalgic, I invite you to print-off and fill in the coupon of your choice and post it to its destination address. Please let me know if you get a response. If you don’t get a response, I am not liable for any stationery, postage or labour charges.

  1. We never had that many holidays abroad when I was growing up. But I do remember those promos in magazine and newspapers, and I loved looking at brochures and daydreaming about where I’d like to go. And checking out Ceefax/Teletext for holiday offers even though I wasn’t going anywhere! Haha. And I can promise you , you won’t be getting seven days for twenty five quid anywhere now!

    1. Well, just reading your comment exactly describes my experience: I looked and dreamed but wasn’t going anywhere! haha
