Looking at old photos and seeing the clothes we used to wear makes many of us cringe… “Ohh my goodness!” – “Dreadful!” – “What was I thinking?” I had a couple of what was I thinking (WWIT) classics from the 80s:
WWIT Classic #1: a formal silver jacket with shoulder pads. I wore this for my college interview and it certainly turned heads. I felt like I belonged in a Miami Vice scene, but looking back, I was more like Metal Mickey’s sidekick.
WWIT Classic #2: a waterproof hooded tracksuit in yellow and black. I was sporting this whilst at college. It looked cool and colourful at the time, but looking back, it seemed I was auditioning for a role as a bumble bee.
Even though my choice of clothes back in the 80s failed the test of time, there were lots of chic clothes available that wouldn’t be cringeworthy whilst flicking through the family photo album: take a look below at the selection from 1988… fashion, turn to the left, fashion, turn to the right…
My kids were all born in the 80s, so they might be interested in seeing the pictures here! I’ve forgotten about how they looked, to be honest!

Oh the 80’s were a fun time, shell tracksuits, leg warmers, jelly shoes, shoulder pads, ribbed tights for school in a bottle green colour, actually a variety of colours and a page boy hair cut ! Omg . Cringey or what ! 😝😱

I was hoping to see a pic of this silver jacket! I know the eighties gets labelled the decade that style forgot but for me, there’s something very comforting about eighties fashion. A fair bit of my wardrobe is actually eighties inspired and I’m very proud of that.
OK, when do we get to see this shoulder-padded silver jacket???
