Get Stuffed! Nostalgic cookery programme

WITH GET STUFFED, WE HAVE a bit of a dark horse when it comes to TV cookery programmes – it’s one of those 250/1 outsiders that many overlooked. This dark horse starts off fast and finishes even faster – blink and you’ll miss him!

Feeling a bit peckish but a tad hesitant in the kitchen? Don’t panic…

Rule number 1: Ditch the fancy cookbooks: don’t be dashing from supermarket to supermarket trying to hunt down fancy ingredients – you’ll to too knackered to cook when you’re done!

Rule number 2: Give those celebrity chefs with a whack with your heavy duty frying pan.

Rule number 3: The Get Stuffed team of cooks are here to help you become confident in the kitchen.

Rule number 4: Before you start cooking, make sure your hands are clean, so Wash Yer Handies!

Never heard of them? You would catch them late Saturday night/early Sunday morning on ITV during the 1990s. If you dozed off and missed it, it’s your loss… you snooze, you lose!

None of this stressing, bad language, sweating like a pig in a sauna lark – it was all very friendly in the Get Stuffed kitchen.

If you managed to keep your eyelids open, then you were in for a treat: five minutes of culinary magic! As soon as the Get Stuffed cooks hit the screen, you were wide awake, drawn in by its unique humour, and began to salivate as the meal was being knocked-up.

Get Stuffed had various different cooks who didn’t have a smidgen of celebrity status. They didn’t attend a top notch cookery school with beautiful views, they learned their trade in the Get Stuffed kitchen. Just give ’em the basics: a cooker, cooking utensils, ingredients from the local shop, and a dash of imagination.

These cooks were fun and they knew how to knock-up a wicked meal. Hesitation did not enter their minds. It was a case of cooking is easy and the results are perfect every time. None of this stressing, bad language, sweating like a pig in a sauna lark – it was all very friendly in the Get Stuffed kitchen. The food was always tasty – their facial expressions whilst tucking into their cookery creation said it all: Yummy  yummy, no more rumble tummy and I’ve still got some money. By the time the closing credits were rolling, you’d wished you’d worn a bib to soak up the dribble tumbling-off your bottom lip. Also, the meals were pretty cheap to make – a must for those who are savvy with their wonga!

You can tell the ones who watched Get Stuffed during the time it was aired: they are the ones who are smart with their hard earned cash – the ones who bring their broken television sets back to the shop for a refund after 20 years of reliable service – the ones who head to the supermarkets 10 minutes before closing time and walk out with a trolley full yellow sticker items – the ones with overflowing cash in their accounts.

Well done to those who managed to embrace Get Stuffed. It’s been worth it and hopefully you’re now reaping the reward… being a creative genius in the kitchen and the envy of the street.

Tough luck to those who didn’t have the power to stay awake late into the night to watch Get Stuffed. You’re probably a lousy cook and pub food is your saviour. Don’t beat yourselves up – it’s all in the past so get over it!
