IF you owned a Sony Trinitron TV during the 70s and 80s then you really had something to brag about as it was a top of the range television set. This 1976 advert boasts about its colour and brightness superiority.
Back in 1976, black & white television sets were a popular cheaper option: the Sony Trinitron would cost around £325 whereas a black & white TV would be about £140 – bear in mind that the average weekly salary back then was around £70 (men) and £45 (women).
The Trinitron was the Rolls Royce of television sets, so if you had one you gained permission to brag; a conversation with your neighbour could have sounded something like this:
Neighbour: “I have a Philips TV.”
You: “Nice… but I have a Sony Trinitron.“
Game over.
